Information + Tips
From my own experience as a mother, I like to warm up with children in conversation and play which can take 5 - 10 minutes and then sessions usually take on a life of their own.
I don't use studio props or lighting and work with natural outdoor lighting. Feel free to bring your own bubbles, balloons and favourite soft toys for young children & I usually recommend a plain coloured blanket to sit or lay on. Ultimately I want to capture their emotions and expressions from moment to moment so I do not place too much focus on props and accessories.
Young children typically don't sit still for longer than a few seconds so please bring your patience. As parents, you know your children best so by helping them to laugh about the things they love or think funny can be really helpful. Most children enjoy a good tickle, a spin or a silly dad joke to get the smiles going so be playful and they'll feed off your energy too. Being genuinely affectionate, thoughtful and attentive to one another can be felt through an image, ultimately these are the moments I look for and aim to capture.
Please bring snacks & water (ideally for before and after). Dress comfortably. I also suggest neutral colours & not matching. ie. jeans and white shirts. For mothers - make the most of it ie. get your hair and make up done, buy a new outfit and feel good about this moment with your loved ones. If you get stuck we can create a pin board together via Pinterest ;)
Family members of up to 8 - so I welcome grandparents to come along.
