Almighty God, we thank you today for those brave and heroic souls who put the freedom of our nation and the freedom of the world, ahead of their own needs and desires. Thank you for those who gave even their own lives for their mates and for the well being of others.
We pray that we might imitate their example, that we might be people of selfless sacrifice – heroes in the eyes of those whom we serve.
We pray today for the safety of those who continue to serve in dangerous places. May they be protected, and may their heroic efforts be rewarded with the fruit of peace and security.
We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ, who demonstrated the greatest love by laying down his life for others.
